Laikipia Governor, Deputy clash over county expenditure

A political storm between Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu and his deputy Josephat Kabugi Gitonga is brewing after the latter accused his boss of misusing the county resources.

Gitonga accused Governor Irungu of failing to regulate the county expenditure saying that at least Ksh 12 million is spent daily on recurrent expenditure while key development projects are not allocated enough resources.

He further alleges that the Governor ignores his advice as his deputy, which is creates a bad-working relation between the two.

Gitonga further said that the projects implemented by the County Government are non-essential to people of Laikipia County.

According to the deputy Governor, Laikipia residents lack clean drinking water and are often lagging behind in terms of infrastructural development.

He has challenged the Governor to allocate more funds to important development projects.
