Laikipia Governor faces ouster motion over funds use

Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu is on the verge of being ousted from office if an impeachment notice of motion facing him sails through the Laikipia County Assembly over alleged misappropriation of public funds.

The notice of motion, which was tabled by Daiga Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mwangi Maruga, received support from majority of the members who appended their signatures for removal of the County Chief through an impeachment.

Twelve out of twenty three legislators who are in support of the motion also accused the Governor for gross misconduct and abuse of office.

However, confusion rocked the house as Githiga Ward MCA Peter Thomi raised allegations that he had not appended his signature in support of the motion, adding that his signature was forged to oust Governor Irungu.

His sentiments were opposed by nominated MCA Catherine Waruguru who told him to report the matter to the police arguing that he was demeaning the house.

Speaker Patrick Mariru said the house standing orders do not implement any withdrawal of signature once appended.

Majority Leader Mwangi Kamakia said that the house will extensively look into the issue and debate wisely once the motion is presented after seven days.
