Last witness testifies in Willie Kimani murder case

The last witness in the Willy Kimani murder case, Chief inspector Clement Mwangi on Tuesday took to the stand to testify before Justice Jessie Lessit.

The Chief Inspector attached to DCI Mboto Sub county is among the team who investigated the five accused persons in the murders, which sent shock waves across the country in June 2016.

He is the 45th witness to testify in the case.

Chief Inspector Mwangi took the court through a chronology of events since Willy Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and their taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were reported missing, and until their bodies were recovered.

He will proceed with his testimony on Wednesday.

The Willy Kimani murder case against four police officers has dragged in court taking a slow dive over the past two years.

The ascension of Justice Jessie Lessit to the Court of Appeal had threatened to delay the case further with Chief Justice Martha Koome allowing the judge to continue hearing the matter.

Since 2016, 44 prosecution witnesses have taken the stand, detailing the events that led to the death of the three and the ultimate dumping of their bodies in a river at Oldonyo Sabuk until their decomposing bodies were recovered one week after their disappearance.
