Former South C MCA and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja's key
liaison officer Osman Khalif Abdi has finally been released following
his kidnapping at a Nairobi mall on November 10, 2023.
This is according to Senior Counsel Ahmednasir
Abdullahi, who made the announcement in a post on X platform (formerly Twitter)
on Wednesday evening.
Ahmednasir, posting alongside a photo of himself
and Osman after a meeting in his office, accused a “powerful politician” of
being behind the latter's kidnapping.
The constitutional lawyer said the unnamed
politician sent a few rogue police officers to abduct and torture Osman, for
reasons that he failed to disclose.
“Osman visited me in my law chambers today and
narrated his heart-wrenching ordeal. They held him for 8 days and tortured him
brutally,” stated Ahmednasir.
“Apparently, this powerful politician has special
policemen from his tribe under his command and are independent of the normal
police command structure.”
The outspoken advocate further urged President
William Ruto to come out and address the recent spate of abductions under his
administration, further calling for an independent probe into Osman’s
kidnapping.
“This is a very worrying trend and President William
Ruto must come openly and address this troublesome event of Mr. Osman and tell
Kenyans why they are being abducted,” he stated.
“It is worrying because Kenyans are being abducted,
held for weeks, tortured, and then released. Mr. Osman's case must be
independently investigated and his abductors brought to book.”
Osman was allegedly taken by five gunmen inside a mall in Westlands, by assailants using a double-cabin vehicle.
