Lawyer linked to murder suspect Kevin Kangethe freed on Ksh.100k cash bail

A city lawyer who had been picked up by DCI officers and held by police at an unknown location since friday has finally been released on Ksh100,000 cash bail.

Beatrice Ngethe was picked up from her apartment in Nairobi and whisked away and her whereabouts have been unknown until today when the Law Society of Kenya demanded her immediate release.

Beatrice is reported to have had links with a Kenyan fugitive identified as Kevin Kang'ethe, who escaped from the Muthaiga police station a week ago.

Kangethe is wanted in the US for the murder of Maggie Mbitu who is said to have been his lover.

Surveillance footage from an undisclosed location captured the arrival of three unidentified individuals in a Subaru Forester.

Shortly after, the vehicle was observed departing from the premises where Beatrice was last seen.

Subsequently, three officers—two women and a man—are seen entering the premises.

Moments later, they emerge escorting Beatrice towards their parked vehicle adjacent to the apartment wall.

The group arrived at the premises a few minutes past 6:50 am on Friday, swiftly departing with Beatrice by 7 am, destination unknown.

Despite frantic efforts by family members, scouring various police stations, including Kiambu, Gigiri, Muthaiga, Karen, and the DCI headquarters along Kiambu road, Beatrice remained untraced for three days.

Her reappearance occurred at Pangani Police Station, hours after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) raised concerns regarding her whereabouts.

It's now disclosed that Beatrice is affiliated with Kevin Kangethe, a fugitive linked to the murder of Maggie Mbitu at Boston Logan International Airport.

While Citizen TV cannot confirm Beatrice's role as Kangethe's legal representative, LSK affirms her rights to represent him, given his status as the prime suspect.

Kangethe's dramatic escape from Muthaiga Police Station, aided by an alleged visit from a purported lawyer at the nightclub in Westlands, remains unresolved.

Despite efforts, Kangethe remains at large, and LSK demands clarity on the treatment of its member.

In the meantime, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are pursuing a second suspect believed to be Kevin Kang'ethe's brother, who could be the mastermind of Kevin's dramatic escape from the Muthaiga Police station.

According to police investigations, the male suspect who is believed to have linked up with Kang'ethe at Muthaiga Police station, has sinced switched off his mobile phones and is on the run, together with the fugitive.

Detectives are pursuing CCTV footage from scenes where he last visited as well as mobile phone call data to assist in investigations.

It is not clear whether the male adult communicated to Beatrice Ng'ethe before or after Kang'ethe's escape from Muthaiga police station, prompting detectives to apprehend her for close to 72 hours.
