'Let them mature politically first,' Uhuru attacks Ruto camp as he campaigns for Raila in Nakuru
President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Nakuru residents to vote for Azimio
la Umoja One Kenya coalition flagbearer Raila Odinga in the August 9th General
Election.
Speaking
during the commissioning of the Nakuru Railway Station, the president said that
his handshake with the Azimio presidential candidate was meant to unite Kenyans
and achieve peace as had been the case when he embraced William Ruto.
In a
thinly-veiled attack at the Kenya Kwanza brigade led by Deputy President William
Ruto, President Kenyatta said they (Kenya Kwanza) camp needs time to mature politically
by toning down on insults before seeking Kenya's top job.
"Hawa wengine ni wetu lakini inakaa they need time ya kutulia, kuwacha matusi,
kuwacha spidi mingi na kujua ya kwamba kazi na ukweli inashinda matusi na
chuki," President Kenyatta said.
"Let
them stay like that for now, there is still time, and there is no
problem."
He
defended his pact with Odinga, saying he had opted to mend fences with the opposition
chief in for the sake of peace in the country, the same way he joined hands
with DP Ruto in 2013 to unite the Kalenjin and Kikuyu communities.
"Kutafuta
Amani ni kitu kibaya? Msimamo wangu umekuwa kudumisha Amani. Wakati nilisema
tushikane na wakalenjin na Ruto si kulikuwa na Amani?' He posed. "Wakati
nilienda kutafuta Odinga, nilifanya makosa?"
President Kenyatta also urged support for the Azimio La Umoja affiliated candidates saying
they would help the Raila government deliver its mandate.
"Na
hawa wazee wetu hata kama mumekubali kuunga huyu mzee (Raila) mkono, sasa
jamani kama hana wafanyakazi itakuwa aje?" Uhuru posed.
"Sasa
Lee Kinyanjui hapa anataka amalize ile alianzia... Arama amalize... Senator ako
hapa, Woman Rep pia na MCAs."
