Parliament has unanimously rejected Monica Juma’s nomination as Secretary to the Cabinet.

This comes after she was turned down by the National Assembly Security Committee after the vetting process on Tuesday.

The vetting committee took matters with a letter written by Ms Juma when she served as the PS for Defence lamenting about the frequent visits she received from Members of Parliament to her office.

The letter, addressed to the clerks of the National Assembly and the Senate was in bad faith and painted the legislators as a ‘nuisance’ according to the vetting panel.

Ms Juma had complained in the letter dated October 24th, 2014 that the MPs had made frequent visits to her office requesting employment and transfer of civil servants.

Ms Juma was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta mid-April to fill a position previously held by Francis Kimemia who stepped aside after he was named in a graft report released by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in March.

The Secretary to the Cabinet will have the responsibility of taking charge of the Cabinet office, be responsible for arranging business and keeping the minutes of the Cabinet.

She becomes the first presidential nominee to be rejected under the Jubilee administration.
