Seven-time Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton has chronicled details of what stood out for him during his recent tour of Africa.

In an interview with Sky Sports on Thursday, the Mercedes-contracted British race driver noted that he made preparations for the trip in February, as part of his New Year's resolution, since he was eager to make the trip despite it not being his maiden excursion to Africa.

"It's the continent I've wanted to go visit. Whilst I have been there before, it is the place I wanted to visit more than anywhere and I got to see and travel to lots of different places," said Hamilton.

Even though Hamilton says that Africa's incredible landscape is one to behold, he was specifically impressed with how welcoming and down-to-earth his hosts were.

Prior to pitching camp in Kenya during his August trip, Hamilton had traveled to Rwanda, Tanzania and Namibia.

"It's incredible how welcoming everybody was and it was a very grounding experience to see the incredible landscape in the different countries that I went to and it was a very humbling experience to see people living with literally nothing," he said.

"Their houses were made of twigs, they didn't have shoes or socks  but they went about their lives normally. They didn't use social media and they didn't have the stuff we all have in the Western World and it didn't seem like they took anything for granted which was quite beautiful to see."

During his tour of Kenya, Hamilton got the opportunity to spend some time with the Pokot people noting that he would carry the experience with him for years to come.

“We are all family, anyway. I’ll carry this experience, and all my other memories from Kenya and from this journey as a whole, in my heart forever,” said Hamilton on his Instagram then.
