LIST: 15 MPs appointed to vet President Ruto's Cabinet Secretary nominees

The National Assembly has approved the appointment of members who will sit in the Committee on Appointments which is set to vet Cabinet Secretaries nominated by President William Ruto.

The 15 members include MPs Nelson Koech, Rahab Wachira Mukami, Dido Ali Raso, George Gitonga Murugara, David Gikaria, Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Mary Emaase, Abdul Rahim Dawood, Junet Mohamed, Caleb Amisi, Stephen Mule, Abdi Shurie, Naisula Lesuuda, David Pkosing and Mishi Mboko.

Chaired by the speaker of the National Assembly the committee also constitutes the deputy speaker, the majority and minority leaders with their deputies and the other members who are nominated by the majority and minority sides.

In the absence of the Speaker, the Committee shall elect a Member from amongst its members, to chair the session.

The House Standing Orders require that the Committee on Appointments be appointed within seven days of the assembly of a new House and shall serve for a period of three years. After the three-year period, a Committee appointed thereafter shall serve for the remainder of the term of the Assembly.

The committee has 28 days from the first sitting within which they are to audit President Ruto’s nominees to the cabinet and table a report in the house.

The house plenary has to debate the report within 7 days as the parliamentary timelines dictate that the National Assembly has until November 3, to conduct the vetting exercise of Cabinet Secretary nominees.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly on Friday, October 7 asked the public to submit memoranda on all the Cabinet nominees ahead of the vetting exercise.
