List of university courses which no student was placed to pursue

One hundred and six bachelor degree courses in Kenyan universities won’t be pursued by any of last year’s 89, 486 KCSE candidates. This is according to a report by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

Ninety eight of the 106 academic programmes did not receive takers because the applicants did not qualify for them or were placed in other courses that they had chosen.

The remaining eight courses did not receive even a single applicant.

Below is a list of the 8 degree courses that received zero interest at application level:

• Theology

• Technology in mechanical ventilation and air conditioning
• Bachelor of Arts in peace and conflict studies

• BSc. (Aquatic resources conservation and development with IT)
• BSc. (Natural products)
• BSc. Environmental science and resource management

Africa Nazarene, Co-operative, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Meru and Presbyterian universities were hardest hit by the abandoned degree courses.

Co-operative University had allocated 300 slots for takers of a degree course in social work and community development, but no student was picked to join the course.

Kisii University had allocated 100 slots to takers of business administration, 25 to applicants of peace and conflict studies, 25 to takers of aquatic resources and 30 potential applicants for environmental science, but no student was picked to pursue any of the courses.

While many arts and science courses featured in the list of least-preferred programmes, the following degree courses are considered by KUCCPS as the most competitive: Medicine, architecture, engineering, dental surgery, pharmacy, computer science, law, quantity surveying, nursing, information technology and real estate.

One thousand two hundred and sixty nine (1, 269) candidates who qualified to join universities decided to enroll for technical courses at vocational training colleges.
