Two lovers have been arraigned in court in connection with the
brutal murder and lynching of a 26-year-old woman in Likoni, Mombasa County.
The suspects are accused of conspiring to kill Jane Achieng,
whose dismembered body was later discovered, as some of her body parts remain
missing to date.
Investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations
(DCI) have revealed that the deceased had been romantically involved with the
accused man.
For more than two months detectives have been piecing together
details of the perpetrators and events that led to Jane’s brutal murder in
Timbwani.
The police operation led to the arrest of Alice Achieng
Ochieng and Macdonald Ochieng Owino, who appeared before Justice Wendy Kagendo
to face murder charges.
DCI investigations show that on February 4, Alice allegedly
sent Jane’s photo to a contact in Kwale with the intention of harming her.
She later forwarded that photo to Macdonald with a chilling
message: “Rest in peace.”
Evidence presented indicates that Alice lured Jane into a
meeting at a local club in Likoni, where Macdonald worked as a manager.
That night, the three spent the night at Alice’s residence, where
Jane even prepared dinner.
On February 6 and 7, Macdonald failed to return home,
prompting Alice to send a message to his employer complaining that Jane’s
presence had changed her relationship with Macdonald.
A day later, Likoni residents woke up to the shocking
discovery of a woman’s mutilated body dumped in a sack near a residential area.
Some of the victim’s body parts are yet to be found.
The family is still seeking justice. The two suspects are in
custody at Shimo La Tewa Prison and are scheduled to be formally charged with
murder on May 15, 2025.
