Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has announced plans to pursue the County’s senatorial seat once his two-five-year term in office expires in August.

According to the Governor, who was speaking during a budget-making forum at Makueni Agricultural Training College in Kwa Kathoka Township, he made the decision after consulting his constituents who believe he will safeguard their devolution interests should he eye the seat.

“Mimi naona kwamba ata hiki kiti cha useneta ni kiti kwa sababu ya kuulizwa na watu na kuona kwamba naweza kusaidia ni kiti ambacho naweza kusema kinafaa pia,” Kibwana said.

Kibwana’s move will pit him against Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo, a vocal critic of him, who has similarly expressed interest in the seat. Maanzo is currently being endorsed by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo jnr.

Kibwana now joins his Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counterparts, Jackson Mandago and Alex Tolgos respectively who will also pursue Upper House seats, in their regions, once their time in office terms expire in August.
