Man, 22, lynched over suspected theft in Siaya

Police in Rarieda, Siaya County are investigating the death of a 22-year-old man who was lynched by members of the public for allegedly stealing from a neighbour in the Nyagoko area.

The body of the man who has only been identified as Ochieng’ was found while lying in a pool of blood at Jodongo Yuko village after he was beaten to death by irate members of the public.

The incident was reported to Aram police station by the acting assistant chief, Luke Otieno.

Officers from the station rushed to the scene and established that the deceased had been subjected to mob injustice by members of the public who claimed that he had stolen some personal belongings of a villager the previous day.

The deceased’s body was removed to the Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary pending autopsy as investigations continue.
