Man, 30, hangs himself over sports bet gone wrong

A 30-year-old man from Narok Town known as Kariuki on Tuesday evening hanged himself after allegedly losing a Ksh9,000 sports bet.

On Wednesday morning, neighbours discovered the body of the father of two hanging from the truss of his house after his sports bet went wrong.

The body of the deceased was taken to Narok Referral Hospital morgue.

Kariuki, also known by the fictitious name Scorpion, had hoped that his sports bet will be successful, and would use the money to service a bank loan, pay rent for his business premise and house.

According to neighbours, Kariuki’s children live with their mother in Naivasha.

Kariuki ran a business of selling audio-visual compact discs and public address equipment in Narok Town.

According to his friends, Kariuki was a disciplined man. However, they said, he had attempted suicide early 2015 after floods swept away his business premise and house.

Narok OCPD Paul Kiogora confirmed the incident.
