Man Charged with Impersonating Nairobi Senator Sonko

Joseph Gitau Njoki is accused of impersonating the Senator via a Facebook page christened ‘Mike Sonko Foundation’ on 29th April 2013.

Njoki appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Ellena Nderitu.

He was also charged with another count of trying to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public on 11th July 2014.

The accused is said to have sent a text to his followers through the Facebook page asking them to send him Ksh.1,000 each after claiming he had issued cheques worth Ksh. 6.2 million to Kenyans.

Njoki was denied cash bail on the grounds that he had jumped bail in another case before the courts.

The case will be heard on 4th August 2014.
