Peter Muturi Meriti, a land broker within Kajiado county, is said to have inhaled the fumes at a wines and spirit shop out of curiosity, only for him to develop complications that later led to his death.
According to a police report, Meriti was in the company of his two friends who are members of community policing when they passed by the said liquor store to check on their other friend.
At the liquor store, the deceased spotted a container with the detergent and out of curiosity, inhaled its fumes.
Moments later, he started developing problems, including nose bleeding, stomachache and loss of sight.
Meriti reported the incident to the police and was taken to the nearest hospital in Ngong, after being suspected of consuming illicit brew.
But his condition worsened and he was pronounced dead a day later.
Consolata Wairimu and Grace Njeri, the two workers at the liquor store told police that they bought the home-made detergent from a hawker and placed some in the liquor.
Police have since commenced investigations and impounded the poisonous detergent.
