Man found dead in Machakos 3 months after he was abducted in Kwale

The body of a 28-year-old man from Kibundani village in Ukunda, Kwale County has been found at the Machakos County Referral Hospital mortuary three months after he went missing.

Juma Sarai is reported to have been abducted by unknown people at his home in Kibundani village on October 4, 2019 and since then his whereabouts have remained unknown.

According to the family spokesperson, Mohamed Salim, the deceased was killed, his body badly mutilated and later dumped at Tsavo National Park.

Salim says that Sarai was tortured before being killed by his abductors.

“Sarai’s body was badly mutilated by the kidnappers you cannot even recognise him at the moment,” said the family spokesperson.

The decomposing body of Sarai was found at Tsavo National Park on November 16, 2019 by passersby who informed police who then moved the body to the Machakos County Referral Hospital morgue.

The killing of Sarai comes at a time when the Office of the DPP and Haki Africa are conducting a public inquiry in six Coastal counties on enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killings of youth believed to be Al Shabaab sympathizers.

Rosette Ochoo, a legal officer at Haki Africa, says that three people have been killed by unknown assailants in Kwale while seven reported to have been kidnapped this year.

The burial arrangements of Sarai are underway.
