Shock and grief engulfed Kapkures village in Ainamoi Sub-county, Kericho County after a 33-year-old man was murdered by known assailants over unknown reasons.

Tendwet Sub-location Assistant Chief Moses Langat confirmed the incident saying the man identified as Cosmas Langat was hacked to death.

Langat said the deceased was in the company of his friend last night when known people who were believed to have been laying ambush for him emerged from the darkness, caught and dragged him to an unknown destination.

He said the friend managed to free himself from the assailants and ran up to the deceased's home and reported the matter to his wife.

The administrator revealed that after taking long for the man to arrive home, his wife informed him about the incident.

Langat said later, the man was found dead with deep cuts in various parts of his body which were suspected to have been inflicted by the assailants.

He said the deceased had escaped another murder incident last year when unknown assailants burnt his house but luckily he escaped unhurt but his wife sustained minor burns.

Langat expressed concerns over the rising cases of murders and suicides in his location and appealed to the residents to desist from such acts.

The incident was later reported at Brooke police station where police officers rushed to the scene and moved the body to Kericho Referral Hospital mortuary.

A manhunt for the assailants who escaped from the scene has been launched.
