A Kithimani court has sentenced a man to death after finding him guilty of robbery with violence charges against the mother of former Member of Parliament Charles Kilonzo.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the court heard that Josephat Mutuku Kasyema violently attacked Agnes Njeri Kilonzo, an 80-year-old woman, on December 8, 2023, at Ndarani area, Machakos County.

The prosecutor, led by Fred Nderitu, Lydia Wang'ombe, and James Gachoka, revealed that Kasyema robbed the victim of her mobile phone, a Samsung Galaxy J2 valued at Ksh.15,000 and an unknown amount of cash.

The accused is said to have tied the MP's mother while threatening her with a panga. Moments later, the convict left her alone in the house, where she was rescued hours later. The prosecution revealed that the 80-year-old woman was found with cuts on her head.

The court heard that the attack was so vicious that the victim lost the power of speech.

Following the submissions, the court ruled that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused had committed the alleged offence
