According to family members from Thiba North village, the victim, Geoffrey Murimi, was attacked by his uncle, Daniel Warui, 47, after questioning him about Ksh 7,500 that Warui had allegedly misused from a leased rice farm during Christmas celebrations at a local bar.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Geoffrey’s uncle, Jackson Kibugi, said the situation escalated after the victim reported the incident to his grandmother, 80-year-old Jecinta Wanjira. Warui reportedly also attacked his mother with the same kitchen knife, injuring two of her fingers before fleeing the scene.
“My grandson is fighting for his life, and my son even attacked me. I want Daniel Warui arrested for what he has done,” Jecinta Wanjiru said in pain.
Jackson Kibugi added that the family had reported the matter to Thiba Police Station but no action has been taken so far. “We want justice. Geoffrey is in critical condition, and my mother is suffering from the assault,” he said.
Angry residents of Thiba North village said Warui escaped after the incident. “I saw him in Ngurubani town after the attack. He even claimed to the village in-charge that he had killed Geoffrey, which is why he was running away,” said Peter Murimi, a local resident.
The dispute reportedly arose after Daniel Warui leased half an acre of rice farm for Ksh 20,000. He allegedly took the remaining Ksh 7,500 on Christmas Day but spent it on alcohol and buying drinks for women. “Geoffrey was concerned after seeing Daniel spending the money recklessly, as if he was campaigning for a political position,” said Jackson Kibugi.
