Man strangles lover to death in Kirinyaga

Shock engulfed Ngurubani residents in Kirinyaga County, after a 46-year-old man killed his lover in what is suspected to be a failed love affair.

Mwea East Sub-county police commander Anthony Mbogo on Wednesday said Simon Maina strangled Jackline Irungu, 30, to death in a rental house on Tuesday night.

It is said that Mr. Maina called some residents to notify them that he had killed Ms.Irungu and locked her up in the house before fleeing.

Residents said Maina is a local trader and a married father of three and that he had an affair with Ms. Irungu, who was also a small-scale trader in the town.

The police boss said that Maina was later arrested in Ngurubani town at around 10 p.m. and is currently being held at Wanguru police station.

He noted that the deceased’s body had been taken to Mwea Mission Hospital in Karira.
