The suspect linked to the brutal killing of his brother’s wife and two children in Kitutu Chache North, Kisii County, will remain in police custody for 10 more days.

Magistrate Caroline Rono on Thursday ruled that the suspect, 27-year-old Alex Ayata, be detained pending the conclusion of investigations.

The ruling followed an application by the prosecution led by Job Okello to detain the suspect, arguing that this would also help safeguard his life as he is allegedly in danger.

Magistrate Rono ordered that the accused be remanded at Rioma Police Station, and that a mental test be conducted.

The judge also directed that an autopsy be conducted on the bodies of the deceased presently lying at the Kisii Referral Hospital Mortuary.

The case will be mentioned on November 27 this year.

Ayata allegedly slashed to death 27-year-old Edna Moraa and her two children aged five and two years with a machete.

He is said to have killed his brother's family to frustrate him after the two had reportedly been fighting for a long time.
