Man wants cigarettes banned in Kenya, says its causing tobacco-related cancer

A Nairobi resident on Friday moved to court seeking to compel the government to stop production, supply and use of tobacco products such as cigarettes.

According to Ibrahim Mohamed Ibrahim, this is because cancer is a tobacco-related ailment and cigarettes contribute to the epidemic.

He further seeks that the disease be declared a national disaster which calls for special administrative action.

Ibrahim has filed the petition under a certificate of urgency.
