Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a man and woman in possession of bhang estimated to have a street value of Ksh.5 million.

The suspects, Samuel Omondi and Judith Kerubo, both aged 29 years were apprehended on the Keroka–Sotik highway in Borabu, Nyamira County with the drugs stashed in five sacks.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects are expected to be arraigned.

Elsewhere in Tigania East in Meru, the police intercepted a motorcycle rider trafficking 30 kg of bhang on Monday night.

DCI detailed that in the 1 am incident, the rider failed to stop when the police instructed him, forcing the police to fire in the air.

"The rider ignored orders to stop and revved on, before a gunshot that rented the air interfered with his balance forcing him to abandon his tools of trade and scamper on foot," said the DCI.

This comes amid an ongoing crackdown to curb the consumption of illicit alcohol and drug abuse in the country.
