Manyani Maximum Prison inmate tests positive for COVID-19

An inmate at the Manyani Maximum Prison in Taita Taveta County has been isolated after reportedly testing positive for COVID-19.

According to Taita Taveta Health CEC John Mwakima, the inmate was only recently transferred from the Shimo La Tewa prison.

Mr. Mwakima, who spoke to Citizen Digital, also added that a fellow prisoner who came into contact with the patient has since also been placed in quarantine.

The CEC further stated that health ministry officials have visited the facility to establish it’s state as the new patient brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the county to 15.
