Primary School, the venue chosen to host this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations
in Uasin Gishu County, witnessed a low turnout on Friday, with local residents
expressing their concerns about escalating insecurity in the area.
The
residents cited several cases of armed attacks in the area which have led to
loss of lives and property.
They
similarly decried increased cases of muggings, carjackings and break-ins, which
they attributed to augmented drug and alcohol abuse among youth, while urging
law enforcement agencies to beef up security in the area.
County
Commissioner Dr. Edyson Nyale however assured the locals that security will be
beefed up ahead of the Christmas festivities.
The
national Mashujaa Day celebrations were held at the Kericho Green Stadium, and
were presided over by President William Ruto.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Ruto justified his signing of four Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Bills into law even as the move
results in an increased tax burden for Kenyans.
