Nancy Kigunzu Indoveria, the businesswoman known as
‘Mathe wa Ngara’ who is being probed for drug trafficking, has been detained
for five more days to allow the prosecution to complete investigations.
Appearing before the JKIA Law Courts on Wednesday, Kigunzu told the court she suffers from anxiety and sought orders that she is granted some time off
the police station to access medical treatment.
Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku ruled that she is allowed to
see a doctor when required as it is her right. The Muthaiga
OSC was directed to ensure that the businesswoman is escorted
to the hospital.
“It
should not happen that when I want you in court is when you claim to be in
hospital. Let's not play those games. She has her right to access medication
but only under the full escort of the police,” said the court.
In an affidavit filed before the court, the Directorate
of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that there is more than just marijuana
impounded at Kigunzu’s place, adding that they need time to engage experts in
testing and sampling edibles believed to be laced with illicit substances.
She is accused of fleeing the scene during last week's
operation before she was nabbed at the Nairobi city centre on Monday.
