Mavoko MP surrenders to police over burning of AP post

Three days after the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet asked Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau and his Personal Assistant to surrender to police and record statements over their alleged involvement in the torching of Syokimau AP post, the MP surrendered to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road Monday morning.

The MP was later taken to Milimani Law Courts where he is expected to be charged with arson.

Makau is accused of leading boda boda operators to Syokimau AP Post, and torched the premises where human rights lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josphat Mwenda and their taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were held before being brutally murdered by unknown people and their bodies dumped in Ol-Donyo Sabuk River in Machakos County.

A team of detectives said on Thursday that they had visited the MP’s house, but could not find him, while his mobile phones had been switched off.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet ordered police to investigate the incident and arrest those behind it.
