MC Jessy: I was against stepping down but had to respect DP Ruto's decision
Aspiring
Member of Parliament Jasper Muthomi, alias MC Jessy, now says that he
was not willing to step down from the Imenti South parliamentary bid under the
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket but was bound to respect the order given by the party's
leadership.
He dropped his bid in
favour of Mwiti Kathaara who is taking a stab at the same seat.
Speaking in an interview
with Citizen TV on Thursday, Jessy said that they (DP Ruto and other leaders)
had arranged a meeting to hold negotiations but he did not expect the agenda to be about him
dropping his political bid.
He narrated that it was at the meeting, that Deputy
President William Ruto persuaded him to drop his bid. He said he was
anticipating the meeting to outline how they will hold nominations, to square
out on who will be awarded the ticket.
"After
negotiations, I did not agree, I did not want us to do that, you know you must
also respect the leaders who are there. We talked to the vice president and he
asked me to drop my bid, I later confronted him and told him that my community
did not want me to support anyone else and give away my ticket,” said the aspiring MP.
"I was talking to my people back home, I told them the
Deputy president wanted us to have a talk but not to drop my ticket. We were
looking at the first option which is negotiations before going to nominations."
He went on to state that
after the report was announced, he held a private meeting with DP Ruto to
amicably agree on his exit to run as an independent candidate, to which DP Ruto
gave his consent.
He says his community
had asked him to soldier on despite not getting the UDA party ticket adding
that all along he knew he was the popular candidate, but turns out it was a
pipe dream.
"After the report
was released, I went
and sat down with DP Ruto himself and told him the truth, because there are
leaders in UDA who do not want to see young people as leaders, and I told him I
want to go back to the ground and continue voting and he said it is okay,"
said MC Jessy.
"All along I knew
that I was the popular candidate because Jesse was on the ground, he is the one
who campaigns for the party, he is the one we see walking with the Deputy
President. The mistake I made was actually agreeing to have the negotiations."
In what he termed as a
wake-up call after the
fallout with UDA, Jesse said: "Young people have a task ahead of them,
especially those of us who have recently joined politics. We have a lot to
learn. Do not trust everyone with your political plans na kama unaonekana hauna kakitu watu
watakudhulumu."
Jesse has since announced
that will vie for the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate ahead of
the August polls.
He wrote on Twitter:
"Sent like an arrow from a mighty man’s hand. We keep going….. Bado Tuko
kwa race. Let’s do this South Imenti, 9th August it is."
