Kesses MP James Bett’s re-election bid was dealt a fatal blow after losing to a newcomer of Indian origin in the Jubilee Party nominations held on Tuesday, April 25.

Dr Swarup Mishra, popularly known as ‘Kiprop’ in Eldoret, convincingly wrestled away the Jubilee ticket from the incumbent by 20,750 votes garnering 23,137 votes.

MP Bett, who made his Parliamentary debut in the March 4, 2013 General Election after beating Peris Simam in an election where the United Republican Party swept nearly all seats in Uasin Gishu County, garnered a paltry 2,387.

Uasin Gishu county assembly speaker Isaac Terer came second with 4,355 votes.

Swarup is the chairman of Mediheal Group of Hospitals.
