Meru: Man found dead in his kitchen under unclear circumstances

Residents of Makiri Village in Igembe South, Meru County, are in shock after a middle-aged man identified as Mutembei was on Saturday morning found dead in his kitchen under mysterious circumstances.

Witnesses who discovered the body however dismissed an initial suicide theory saying it was impossible for the man to have hanged himself yet his feet were firmly on the ground.

“When we discovered him he had a rope around his neck, but his feet were on the ground, firmly, and he was not swinging,” a witness recounted.

The deceased’s wife, who spoke to Citizen Digital, said she had gone to bed leaving her husband in their living room chewing miraa.

She discovered his body in the morning in their kitchen after realising that he had not joined her in bed the previous night.

It remains unclear how the man, who residents described as calm and peace-loving, ended up dead.

Residents are now calling on the police to expedite investigations into the matter and heighten security in the region especially during the festive season.
