Lawyer Miguna Miguna now says that the ‘red alerts’ hindering his return to the country will be lifted
on Wednesday, September 13, 2022, following President William Ruto’s assumption of power.
Taking to Social media on Tuesday, Miguna reaffirmed to Kenyans that his long stay in exile was soon coming to an end after the new head of state promised to facilitate his return.
Miguna said that he would proceed
to have his passport processed before setting a date for his travel.
“Thereafter, I will
have my Kenyan Passport renewed and I'll announce the date of my RETURN TO MY
MOTHERLAND. Bravo!” Miguna added.
This statement follows
President Ruto’s promise to have Miguna, who declared his support for the UDA
leader, brought back into the country if he managed to ascend to the highest
office.
The lawyer later exuded
confidence about being allowed in the country after Ruto was declared winner of the August elections.
“To all patriots: Relax. Thanks for the
solidarity. Yes, I've packed my bags and I'm ready. But before I can take my
flight back home, William Samoei Ruto must first be sworn in as President, the
red alerts lifted and my Kenyan passport renewed. See you soon. Cheers!” Miguna
wrote on Twitter on 15th August.
The embattled lawyer
was deported to Canada in 2018 after participating in the mock swearing-in of ODM leader Raila Odinga as the People's President at Uhuru Park.
Efforts to have Miguna allowed back into the country have been hitting a snag with the lawyer decrying the red alerts issued by the government barring him from travelling.
