Mildred Odira murder: Brother now says his life in danger

Carrington Odira, brother to the late Mildred Odira, the woman who went missing and found dead a week later now says his life is in danger.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mr. Odira narrated how he was followed home by two people in an unmarked motorbike on Monday evening and they stayed outside his gate through the night waiting to deliver a chilling message to him.

“We left there at 8 in the night and there were two guys following us – me and my cousin Boniface Kaseo. Today in the morning around 7, I opened my gate and found two guys on a motorcycle and they told me ‘drop Mildred’s case or follow your sister’… I reported the matter to Tassia police,” said Mr. Odira who was in the company of Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo.

But the defiant brother said that he will not be cowed and is ready to die to get to the bottom of his sister’s murder.

“Even with all these threats, I am not moved, if Milly’s case will take me to the ground, I am ready, so be it,” he said. “It is so painful, mtu anachinja mtoto wenu kama Mildred (someone’s slaughters one of your children like Mildred) then again come to threaten you. Let them come and kill me but the truth will stand.”

Millie Odhiambo opined that Mildred’s murder could also have been a crime of opportunity.

“We told the police to keep an open mind… there are many possibilities; maybe there are people who were keen on murdering her but then there is also the possibility of a crime of opportunity and even in a crime of opportunity, what the persons are likely to do is cover their steps, they will threaten,” said Ms. Odhiambo.

The body of Ms. Odira, an employee of Foresight Company, a company contracted by the Nation Media Group, was found on Monday morning at City Mortuary badly mutilated.

Her brother said her body had deep cuts on the forehead, neck and navel — injuries that seemed to have been inflicted with a sharp object.

Even worse, the brother pointed out that Ms. Odira’s killers crushed her legs by running them over with a vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing.
