The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been named among Kenya’s best-performing public institutions after earning four national awards for financial reporting, accountability and public service management.
At the 2025 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards, the Ministry was declared the Overall Winner in the Public Sector Category and ranked as the top performer among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The recognition reflects MoD’s adherence to financial reporting standards, transparency guidelines and governance requirements.
The Ministry also received two additional honours from the Office of the Head of Public Service: the Unmodified Audit Opinion Award and a citation for Leadership in Driving the Public Service Transformation Agenda.
The awards were formally presented to Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya at a ceremony held at Defence Headquarters.
Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru led the presentation, joined by senior officials and department heads.
CS Tuya welcomed the recognition, saying it reflected the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and maintain high operational standards.
PS Mariru noted that the performance resulted from coordinated efforts across the Ministry and underscored the importance of maintaining strong governance systems.
The recognitions add to the Ministry’s record of compliance and structured management practices within the public sector.
