Missing fisherman found dead at River Nyamindi in Mt Kenya forest
The body of a 56-year-old man who disappeared two weeks ago was on Wednesday discovered at the banks of River Nyamindi in Mt. Kenya forest.
Samuel Kathuri, a local fisherman at Kathagariri location, Manyatta Sub-county in Embu County disappeared on 30th June after he went into the forest and never returned until when his body was discovered at the bank of the river on Wednesday morning.
Embu North OCPD Geoffrey Kere said at around 8am, a team of villagers who had gone into the forest for a search found his decomposed body along the banks of the river after which they reported to the police.
“Officers from Kibugu police post together with the crime personnel visited and processed the scene and were able to identify the body of the man known to carry out fishing in various rivers within the forest,” Mr. Kere said.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, the police boss said the wife of the deceased reported her husband’s disappearance to the police on 4th July after waiting for him for days without showing up.
Mr. Kere urged the public to be keen while fishing or working around the forest in order to avert such incidences.
“Am calling upon fishermen and those who work in the forest to be vigilant and to ensure that at least close friends or family members are aware of your whereabouts before you proceed to your routines. This way, it becomes easy to be traced in case of anything,” he added.
The body of the deceased was taken to Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
