At least 3,800 employees of Moi University have threatened to disrupt the reporting of first year students scheduled for Monday next week, if the institution goes ahead to implement its decision to outsource cleaning and catering services.
The workers say they will also go ahead and disrupt the graduation ceremony set for September 22.
In a memo outlining the decision by the University Council dated August 28, 2016 and signed by the Vice Chancellor Prof Richard Mibey, the University said outsourcing will improve service delivery.
On Monday, the workers’ union led its members in a peaceful demonstration at the campus, accusing the Deputy Vice Chancellor Planning and Administration, Paul Chepkuto, of orchestrating the move.
