The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), in a
statement released on Tuesday, said Judge Anne Ong'injo sustained orders by the
prosecution to have Grant deported after the completion of his nine-year
sentence.
The ODPP says Judge Ong’injo, in her ruling, directed that the
convict be repatriated to Britain through the office of the Cabinet Secretary under
whose docket immigration falls.
“Anne Ong'injo directed that Grant be repatriated to his
country of origin by the Cabinet Secretary in charge of immigration in
accordance with the Citizenship and Immigration Act,” the ODPP stated.
“The prosecution, through ADPP Jami Yamina and assisted by
Prosecution Counsel Ngiri Wangui, had filed the application asking the court to
order for his deportation upon completion of his nine-year jail term.”
According to the ODPP, upon the directive, Grant told the
court during a virtual hearing that he has no objection to being deported to
his country.
In 2015, Grant was convicted and sentenced to nine years in jail
for being in the country illegally and trying to acquire Kenyan citizenship.
He was also slapped with another four years for being in
possession of explosives and planning a terror attack in 2019, even though the
court directed that he serve both sentences concurrently.
