Tears and anguish characterised the scene at MKU grounds in Thika as family and friends gathered for a mass in honour of slain Monica Kimani.

Her parents had to be held as they viewed their daughter’s body in a white casket with gold-coloured edges.

A poster with several pictures of Monica Kimani was hang on the tent near the casket that had white roses atop.

“Justice for Monica Kimani…The vengence belongs to the Lord,” it read.

Her father Paul Ngarama has since expressed his anguish over the murder saying those who killed her must face the law.

The late Monica Kimani, who was about to celebrate her 29th birthday, will be laid to rest on Friday at the family farm in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

On Thursday, Red Cross volunteers were also seen at the venue, to offer assistance to mourners.

The body of Monica Kimani was found inside a bathtub in her Kilimani apartment with the throat slit.

Police are continuing with investigations even as one suspect, Joseph Irungu aka Jowie, remains in custody for the next 10 days.

The Federation of Women lawyers has also condemned the increased incidents of murder of young women.

“The Brutal murder of Monica Kimani is a clear indication of the high level of insecurity in Kenya,” said FIDA.
