Moses Kuria backs Raila Odingas bid for AU Commission chair

During the visit, Kuria expressed his support for Raila's candidature for the position of African Union Commission Chair. Kuria and Raila are said to have shared perspectives on various AU initiatives including the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, Africa 50, Agenda 2063, and the ongoing conversation around converting the Kenya School of Government into the Africa School of Government as an AU Affiliate.
Kuria also presented Raila with a live goat as a gift. Kuria said they made several calls with Raila to African and global leaders to lobby for support.
Raila is eyeing the seat to replace incumbent AU Commission chair Moussa Faki Mahamat of Chad for the elections scheduled for February 2025.
On Friday, Angola's ambassador to Kenya Sianga Abilio hinted that the country will support Raila's candidacy. The President of Guinea Bissau has also agreed to support Kenya’s candidature for the position of AUC Chairperson.
On Thursday, President Ruto secured Ghana’s support for Raila’s bid during his State visit to the country. Kuria was accompanied by his mother Teresia, his wife Joyce and a clique of friends.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka also attended the get-together.
