Moses Kuria released from Kilimani Police Station

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has been freed from police custody.

He was released from Kilimani Police Station after posting Ksh.20,000 police bond.

“Required to appear before Milimani court at 8am on January 13, 2020 to answer to charges of assault or in default to forfeit the sum deposited,” the cash bail receipt reads.

The document is dated January 11, 2020 with a time stamp indicated as 1850 hours.

The lawmaker was arrested on Friday following claims that he assaulted a woman after an interview at Inooro Radio station.

Some of his colleagues and sympathizers later appeared at Kilimani Police Station on Friday evening with a document they claimed was a court order for his release.

Police officers were forced to lob teargas canisters at the crowd after they insisted that they would not leave the station without Mr. Kuria.

Dennis Itumbi alleged that 18 officers assaulted him when he was at the station.

Police later released a statement saying: “They started shouting demanding release of the suspect. They started mobilizing others MPs vowing not to leave the station.

“They were ordered to leave the station but they were adamant. This forced police to use reasonable force by tear gassing them out of the station.”
