Moses Kuria under fire for linking Odinga to DP Ruto ICC case

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) now wants Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria to come clear of his involvement in the ongoing case against Deputy President William Ruto at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a statement, Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Ny’ong’o said that the Gatundu South MP must give details to public on his exact role in the DP Ruto’s case.

“I would like to thank Hon. Moses Kuria for revealing to Kenyans his role in the case involving Deputy President Mr William Ruto at the International Criminal Court,” said Ny’ong’o.

He challenged Kuria to go ahead and give specifics of the alleged meeting with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Mr. Ny’ong’o to ‘fix’ Deputy President William Ruto at the ICC.

“May Mr. Kuria be kind enough to give Kenyans more details regarding my meeting with him together with Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.”

Kuria alleged that together with Ms. Karua, they wrote letters to the Hague-based ICC on behalf of the Party of National Unity (PNU) with names of people to be tried for allegedly perpetrating the 2007/08 Post Election Violence (PEV) that left at least 1,300 people dead and over 600,000 others displaced.

On Sunday, Karua through her lawyer Gitobu Imanyara said she will be moving to court to clear her name of the allegations by Mr. Kuria terming them as defamatory and aimed at soiling her name.

On Monday, Karua also challenged the DP to come out clear and confirm on whether she mentioned him in relation to the ICC cases.

Kuria is known for making statements largely viewed as dangerous having recently been sued for allegedly inciting his constituents to slash with pangas anyone opposed to the National Youth Service (NYS) programme.

Kuria had also been arraigned in court and released on bail over an year ago for posting inciting and hate messages on social media.

The Deputy President is facing charges of crimes against humanity at the ICC after he was named among six others in the famous ‘Ocampo envelop’.

However, the ICC terminated cases against four accused persons including President Uhuru Kenyatta, former head of Public Service Ambassador Francis Muthaura, former Tinderet MP Henry Kosgey and former Police Commissioner Major Gen. Hussein Ali.

Ruto is accused alongside radioman Joshua Arap Sang of perpetrating the PEV by inciting their communities against others.

In a letter, ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda wrote; “In compliance with the Trial Chamber’s order ICC-01/09-01/11-1948-Conf, the Prosecution hereby notifies the Trial Chamber, Parties and participants that it formally closes the Prosecution’s case.”

What remains is now for the defence team to make its presentations before the Judges can decide on the way forward.
