Embattled Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter was on Monday morning arraigned in court for allegedly presenting forged Treasury Bills amounting to Ksh.634 million to the Central Bank of Kenya seeking payment.
Keter, together with two directors of Desai Industries Limited, Arthur Ingolo Sakwa and Madat Suburali Chatur were charged with 11 counts related to conspiracy to defraud the Central Bank of Kenya, making a false document, forgery and uttering a false document contrary to various sections of the penal code.
Appearing before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, the three pleaded not guilty to the 11 criminal counts.
They were released on a cash bail of Ksh.2 million each and ordered to report to the Director of Criminal Investigations once a week.
Keter and the Desai Directors were arrested on Friday, February 16 and spent the weekend at Muthaiga police station.
Their arrest came minutes after they had held a meeting with CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge. They were accused of presenting forged 90-day Treasury Bills dated 1990.
On Sunday, Keter, in a statement issued through his lawyer, said his dramatic arrest on Friday was part of a plan by government operatives to cover up a multi-million fraud committed against Desai Industries Limited.
The case will be mentioned on March 5, 2018.
