Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission
(EACC) on Tuesday arrested Kajiado West Member of Parliament George Risa
Sunkuyia over alleged forgery of academic certificates.
The MP is said to have forged his Kenya Certificate of
Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, purporting it to be grade C+, and
fraudulently used the same document to enrol at the Jomo Kenyatta University of
Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in 2012 and Mount Kenya University.
EACC says that Sunkuyia then ultimately used the irregularly
acquired KCSE certificate to acquire a Diploma certificate at Mount Kenya
University, and also offered the same to the anti-graft agency in 2012.
"On unknown dates and at an unknown place within the
Republic of Kenya, (Sunkuyia) forged a Kenya Certificate of Secondary
Education, serial no. 2988066, with a mean grade of C+, purporting it to be a
genuine certificate issued to you by the Kenya National Examinations Council, a
fact you knew was false,” stated EACC.
“On the February 28, 2017 at the EACC, Nairobi, within Nairobi
County in the Republic of Kenya, being a state officer, to wit a Member of
County Assembly, knowingly provided false information to the EACC to wit a
self-declaration form dated February 27, 2017 in which you indicated that you
held a diploma in County Governance from Mount Kenya University, a fact you
knew to be false."
According to a charge sheet seen by Citizen TV, the lawmaker
now faces three counts of providing false information to EACC, forgery, and
uttering a false document contrary to the law.
