Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji has called for calm and peaceful coexistence following an ethnic clash between Embu and Meru traders in Siakago Market, sparked by concerns over insecurity in the area.

Speaking during a public rally at Ishiara Market to support Mbeere North DCP Party parliamentary candidate Duncan Mbui, Mukunji attributed the conflict to growing insecurity and alleged laxity among local police officers.

He urged members of the Embu and Meru communities, particularly those engaged in the Miraa trade, to embrace peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.

To address the root cause of the unrest, the MP called for the immediate transfer of the area’s Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), Officer Commanding Station (OCS), and other police officers, citing their failure to manage the rising insecurity.

“The security of our people must come first. If the officers on the ground are unable to protect lives and property, they must be replaced,” Mukunji stated.
