President William Ruto has been asked to step in and address the ongoing doctors’ strike which has entered its second week.

While lamenting that Kenyans are currently suffering as a result of the ongoing strike, Nyando MP Jared Okelo said Kenya Kwanza government has refused to address the doctors’ grievances.

He has therefore petitioned the President to come out of his comfort and address the matter, arguing that those who had been sent on the negotiating table are all jokers who are not committed to finding a solution into the impasse.

Okelo, who spoke in Ugunja constituency, reminded Ruto that the Constitution he swore to protect also provides Kenyans with a right of access to proper healthcare.

The lawmaker said patients are dying and there is no one to help because the government has refused to address the plight of the doctors.

He therefore warned that they shall not allow the situation to continue any further, arguing that the government has been collecting a lot of money from Kenyans in form of taxes.

As the doctors’ strike enters the 13th day, the discord between medics and Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha continues to be in the eyes of the public.
So far, talks between the Ministry of Health and doctors union have failed to bear fruit. This even after an intervention by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
