Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has lost
his Facebook page to hackers.
The page, which has over 500,000 followers, seems
to have escaped its owner's hands just after he shared a New Year's message to
his followers - at least 24 hours ago.
While acknowledging the hacking, the legislator
took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to share the news while also adding
that his team was working on resolving the matter.
"My Facebook page was hacked yesterday. We are
trying to resolve the problem...We are African and Africa is our
Business..." he tweeted.
The National Assembly's Budget and Appropriations
Committee Chair last posted on the page Monday morning conveying a New Year
message to Kenyans.
"Wishing you all a prosperous New Year, 2024.
Nawatakia baraka tele mwaka mpya. We are African and Africa is our Business,” read
the post.
Following the incident, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino
has claimed that the hackers are now soliciting money from him while pretending
to be the Kiharu lawmaker.
“Hon Ndindi Nyoro’s Facebook account has been
hacked and hackers are inboxing me to send them money,” he wrote on X.
On his part, digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has
urged Kenyans to ignore the updates and inbox messages being shared by the
hackers.
“Please take note that hackers have taken control
of the FB profile of Ndindi Nyoro and the official page. We are working to recover
and restore the pages,” he said.
The page, which boasts 563K followers, has now been
sharing pornographic material on the 'Facebook Stories' tab. An explicit video
shared on the page's 'Stories' section has been up for the last two hours.
