Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya is currently being grilled by officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Salasya was summoned by the commission's CEO Twalib Mbarak to answer to record a statement on assault allegations and further questions on his public conduct.

The legislator presented himself at the commission's Nairobi headquarters accompanied by two lawyers.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Tuesday, EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said that Salasya is being grilled for allegations of engaging in unlawful conduct that breached Chapter 6 of the constitution which guides the conduct of state officials.

"Based on the outcome of the probe then the commission will determine if there was indeed a violation of the law," said Ngumbi.

Salasya is being interrogated for assaulting Malaha-Isongo-Makunga Member of County Assembly (MCA) during a funeral on January 12.

The controversial lawmaker was at the said funeral captured in a video physically assaulting MCA Indimuli after he failed to comply with Salasya's request to have him sit down.

After Indimuli appeared defiant, the MP went ahead and slapped him at the glare of cameras.

Following the incident, Salasya was arrested, arraigned in court and released on a Ksh.50,000 bond after he denied charges levelled against him.

Salasya had on Sunday downplayed the EACC summon, terming it as a targeted move by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.

“I know the person doing this is this one (Governor Barasa). I want to tell the governor to do his job and let me do mine. I respect you, stop frustrating me. My only problem was KMTC and Mumias Sugar. I have let him be,” the MP stated during a public gathering on Sunday.
