MP’s incitement case postponed to next year

The hearing of an incitement case against Bobasi Member of Parliament Innocent Obiri has been postponed to February 18, 2019.

This is after the lead lawyer for the MP failed to show up, with the court being told that his vehicle had broken down while on his way to  Kisii.

The legislator had appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Nathan Shiundu on Monday for the hearing of the case.

One of the defense lawyers Lazarus Mose, holding brief for Senior counsel Okong’o Mogeni, asked for adjournment saying that Omogeni’s vehicle broken down and could not make it for the court session.

In the case, Mr. Obiri is charged that on May 6, 2018 at Masongo area in Kisii County he uttered words meant to incite local residents against quarry workers.

Obiri denied the charges when he was first arraigned and is out on a cash bail of Ksh.50,000

The MP allegedly stormed into a private quarry in Bobasi demanding that they shut down their machines which he claimed were causing cracks on nearby buildings. He is also said to have roughed up staff at the quarry with his aide assaulting the site manager.

Just hours after the MP left the quarry, the quarry was raided and one of their trucks burnt down, a case that was linked to MP Obiri.
