MPs want CDF kitty increased to cater for bursary allocations

A section of leaders affiliated to the Jubilee administration now want the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty increased so as to increase the budgetary allocations in the Bursary kitty.

The MPs, Wachira Karani (Laikipia West) and Francis Waweru Nderitu (Ndaragwa), say that the uptake of bursary funds has increased over the last few years.

Wachira says the number of applicants has more than doubled over the last few years.

Speaking during the disbursement of bursary cheques at Ndaragwa Girls Secondary School, Wachira said the demand for more funds in the CDF kitty is real if the MPs are to meet their development targets.

He noted that the amount allocated for bursaries was minimal despite the fact that there is a similar kitty in county administrations.

His sentiments were echoed by his Ndaragwa counterpart – Francis Waweru Nderitu – who noted that despite strict measures being put into place to ensure that only qualified students benefit from the kitty, there were claims that beneficiaries were yet to receive the support.

Nderitu observed that some projects, which were initially financed by the CDF kitty, have been taken up by the County Governments raising the need to review the allocations.
