Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has warned leaders
against creating election tensions in the country through sentiments undermine
the integrity of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Speaking in Busia County, Mudavadi said the 2027 elections
will be free and fair despite talk of rigging made by Wajir Woman Representative
Jehow Fatuma.
“Wale wanasiasa wanataka kupigiwa makofi kwa jukwaa..let us
stop undermining the integrity of the IEBC...ati uchaguzi
utaibiwa...weweee...kazi ya Ruto sio kuiba kura, atatafuta kura kwa Wakenya,”
said Mudavadi.
The lawmaker from Wajir claimed President William Ruto will
win the 2027 polls by all means, and openly suggested that leaders from the North
Eastern region would “steal votes” for the Head of State in the 2027 General Election
if the region’s numbers are not enough - remarks that Mudavadi was itching to
dismiss.
“Sisi maneno yetu ni mafupi tu…tunasema tu two terms, ama kuna
maneno ingine? Two terms sio…si tunangojea tu debe iletwe hata kama hatutakuwa
na votes tutamuibia hiyo sio siri,” Jehow had said.
Mudavadi retorted: “Wewe kama una fikira za kuiba usiweke rais
kwa hizo fikira…we want free and fair elections.”
A seemingly angry Mudavadi termed the remarks by the Wajir Woman
Representative as inciteful and aimed at creating election tensions in the
country.
IEBC has since condemned the remarks and described the
utterances as reckless and unacceptable in a democratic society, warning that
such comments risk eroding public trust in Kenya’s electoral system.
The electoral body urged Kenyans to ignore such sentiments and
trust the commission to conduct free fair and verifiable elections.
Other than censure by colleagues and the public uproar occasioned
by her sentiments, no other action has been taken against the Wajir Woman Representative.
